Tech We Love

As an audio-visual partner, there’s no question that we love tech. The proof is in everything we do: our brand-new warehouse, stocked full of top-of-the-line gear; our endless research into new solutions and technologies; and the fact that any of our event technicians would talk for hours about their favourite gear (if you choose to engage, don’t say we didn’t warn you).

We decided to ask 4 of our event technicians, specializing in different aspects of live events, to share their favourite event technology. Check out their answers below!

Madisson Luhowy – JBL SRX Series.

As an event technician who specializes in audio, Madisson’s favourite technology is the JBL SRX Series.

“They’re designed so we can network them together and control everything from the ground, including the volume of each speaker. That makes life so much easier during a show and helps us deliver the best possible sound for your event.”

For Madisson, the key to a successful event is combining technology with preparation so that the team can plan for a flawless audio experience from the first moment to the last – which is why the software included with the JBL SRX Series adds serious value.

“The JBL software lets us map out the venue in advance. Before we even arrive on-site, we can build a model of the room and predict how to position the speakers for the best coverage,” Madisson explained. “This saves time on the day of your event and ensures that every seat in the room gets clear, consistent sound.”

Leo Gorosito – Vectorworks

“One of the technologies I like to use most is Vectorworks,” shared Leo Gorosito, an AV technician with over 20 years of experience.

The design and Building Information Modeling (BIM) software is often thought of as the go-to tool for live events, and with good reason.

With scenic design capabilities that allow us to create conceptual drawings and turn them into completed designs and 3D models, we’re able to use the software to provide clients with visually appealing renderings that help us communicate the overall vision for the event.

Just as, if not more, important, Vectorworks gives us the ability to use our drawings to create functional technical drawings with precise indicators for where all equipment, including flown lighting and speakers, visual displays, the front of house table, staging, and more will go. These detailed technical drawings give our technicians all the information they need to plan, set up, and execute shows, exactly as planned.

“I really enjoy using it and learn from it every day,” Leo said of the software. “Every event I organize is a new experience and offers many lessons.”

Yan Taran – GrandMA3 onPC Command Wing

Yan joined our team recently as a lighting technician, and his favourite piece of technology centres around top-of-the-line event lighting.

“My favourite piece of tech is 10,000% our new GrandMA3 onPC Command Wing,” he explained. “GrandMA systems are used worldwide on everything from smaller installations to world-class touring acts.”

The professional lighting control console is largely considered the gold standard in the live event industry. With an intuitive operating system, fresh user interface, advanced networking, and flexible fixture control system, the GrandMA3 is known for its power, detailed control options, and customizable dual encoders.

Simply put, it’s versatile, makes practical tasks intuitive, and is designed specifically for a great user experience.

For Yan, utilizing this system means that AVentPro is dedicated to using the best lighting equipment and systems on the market. “Being part of the MA community has felt really good,” he shared.

Mike Liaschenko – The Allen & Heath Qu-5

As another audio specialist on our team, it’s no surprise that Mike’s favourite piece of gear is in the sound world. In fact, picking just one piece of equipment proved to be a challenge.

Of course, when AVentPro acquires a brand-new audio mixer, it’s worth mentioning.

“We have a nice new Qu-5. It has similar benefits to previous consoles, but with a nicer design,” shared Mike.

The rest of the team agrees. The upgraded design of the compact digital audio mixer includes new processing capabilities that make it more flexible and customizable while streamlining workflows onsite. As a team that is always looking for ways to reduce the risk of challenges, we know that technology that creates a streamlined process for our technicians reduces the risk of errors.

The upgraded technical experience also comes with benefits for the audience in the form of superior audio than that produced by previous models.
