Event Production in 2022: How to Expect the Unexpected and Come Out on Top
If we’ve learned anything from the past two years, it’s that expecting the unexpected is the cornerstone of effective production planning. You can plan the design, arrange the speakers, rehearse your presentation, and double-check the tech, only to have something — or some goose — throw your day off track. In times like these, it’s critical to adapt, flex, and, above all, maintain a high degree of humour and fun in the face of the unknown.
Take it from the audio visual experts at AVentPro — unexpected setbacks have happened to us all. It’s how our team approaches these challenges that ensure your special gathering is remembered for the right reasons. Check out our wildest event story yet and learn more about what types of unknowns to look out for when building your own event stories.
It’s a Bird, It’s a Plane, It’s a — Goose?
Imagine gearing up for a lively conference. You’ve checked the tech, and you’ve set the virtual stage, while attendees and speakers alike are ready for a great event. You’re confident that this will be a day to remember.
That’s exactly the scenario our team found themselves in when the unexpected struck. Day one went off without a hitch. After all, we’re conference pros. What’s the worst that could happen?
Enter Day 2. Virtual doors are set to open at 8:30. At 8:25, everything goes black. That’s right; we completely lost power! Talk about a last-minute panic turned memorable moment for our team. At times like these, our AV set-up becomes less of a calm, orderly process and more of a Mission Impossible adventure. Just five minutes after the anticipated start time, our tech team had the internet, cameras, LED wall, and lighting running again. In fact, our event shone like a single beacon in the powerless industrial park. Although power wasn’t restored to the neighbourhood for the remainder of the day, we were able to get the backup generator set up to carry the event throughout its duration.
You may be wondering who the culprit behind this unprecedented disaster was. A faulty power line? A Winnipeg storm gone rogue? A rival conference bent on shutting down the fun?
Try looking a bit higher. It turns out, that a wayward goose flew into a power line, taking out the entire industrial park in mere seconds. This was a great reminder that the unexpected happens to the best of us. As experts, our job is to problem solve, adapt, and flex to create an amazing event experience. The show must go on, goose or no goose.
