Amplify: Using the AVRO XR Studio for In-Person Events

The AVRO XR Studio in AVentPro’s new office space has been getting a lot of buzz, most of which has been centered around how it can be used as a dynamic filming studio. And with good reason! But did you know it’s also an incredibly versatile venue for live events?

Specifically designed for flexibility, the studio is a great space to host virtual, hybrid, and fully in-person events.

One of these in-person events took place just last week, hosted by an organization that we’re very proud to work with. Like us, Keynote Connect is passionate about supporting local event professionals and elevating the events industry here at home.

What is Keynote Connect?

Just over a year ago, Tracey Maconachie, Linda Drosodowech, and Kristine Tubiera decided to put their desire to build a community of local public speakers into action.

“As a community, we weren’t doing enough to support local keynotes or budding public speakers. Most local events would bring keynote speakers in from Toronto or the United States, without realizing that there’s a huge network of keynote speakers right here in Winnipeg.”

Just like that, Keynote Connect was born, with the goal of elevating local speakers and connecting them with event professionals.

The three founders launched a mastermind program to help the presenters hone their craft while learning the business side of public speaking. From networking to determining the right rates to charge and how to get in front of event organizers, they aimed to equip new speakers with all the tools and knowledge they’d need to get started and get noticed.

Amplify.

Last week’s Amplify event was the second of its kind, and the second hosted in the AVRO XR Studio. 

Mastermind course participants were invited to do a mini (3-minute) version of their keynote speech. However, instead of practicing in front of their class or family members, they had the opportunity to perform on a real stage, using the same types of equipment they would at a large conference. With monitors to be used as a teleprompter, a large LED wall behind them, and a full lighting and audio setup, the speakers had the rare opportunity to experience exactly what it was like to perform at an event.

Invited to attend were event organizers, other speakers, speaker trainers, and other event professionals, in hopes that the keynote speakers would have opportunities to get noticed, build connections, and book upcoming events.

When Tracey first approached Garry about using the studio for Amplify, the timing was perfect. “They had just finished building and setting up the studio, so hosting Amplify was a great opportunity for both of us. They were excited to show off this really unique event space, and we were able to give the keynote speakers and the attendees a truly elevated live event experience.”

Tracey noted that the flexibility of the space is what makes it the perfect spot for Amplify and so many other events. The large LED video wall allows the keynote speaker to utilize presentation visuals or imagery to create a unique environment, and all of the lighting, audio, and other equipment needed to produce an incredible event is either already in the room or just a few steps away.

Although Keynote Connect hasn’t used the virtual capabilities of the space, Tracey noted that it contributes to the versatility of the studio. “It’s a true dual-purpose space for live events. The technology needed to support a virtual event is built into the studio. Where so many other events are bringing streaming technology into a space that’s really more designed for an in-person experience, the studio allows event organizers to prioritize both the in-person and virtual experience.”

According to Tracey, though, it’s the team that makes the biggest difference. 

“The people at AVentPro are so willing to try new things. Their focus is really on the event and how to make it the best experience possible. They go above and beyond, and it really speaks to the generous nature of this community.”
